Safety First

Tomorrow night the Jill group will head out for our Thursday night ride. I'm going to have to try not to be all concerned and hover-y, even though only two people from our team are coming. Last Thursday, one of the riders fell on the way back from our Thursday ride. Not just fell -- fell and fractured her humerus (I think) bone. Yeah. So she's in a sling and can't ride and we all miss her and I feel just awful even though there was nothing I could have done. We're all hoping she'll be back on the bike soon, because she was kicking some serious a**.

Maybe tomorrow I will bring everyone knee and elbow pads and those big foam pads to wrap around themselves. Bubble wrap, maybe. Or maybe I could line the sides of the trail with those pads that stunt people fall on.
On Sunday, we're going to Calistoga (wine country!) to ride. 50 miles of gorgeous scenery and fantastic rolling hills. Maybe I can convince some folks to stop at a winery or even Chandon on the way back. Champagne is a good recovery drink, right?

On the NCAC front, we had our first mentor meeting/ride last weekend. VERY fun to ride with NCAC folks again. And no one fell, so I didn't have to have an anxiety attack even once.

And Emily loved her birthday cake. I think she's still loving it.

Words and photos from my latest fundraising endeavor coming up this weekend -- No on Prop 8.
I know I'm always asking for money. But most of it isn't for me. I signed up for NCAC '09, so whenever you're ready, you can throw down some tax-deductible dollars over there too. :) See the sidebar on the right for the link ("All your friends are doing it.")

Speedy recovery to the injured, and safe riding tonight and Sunday.

I've been on a pretty strict cake-only diet, in fact. Planning to write a book, entitled "Let Me Eat Cake." I'm sure it will be the next big fad.
