Camping at wrights lake for a night in August was some of the best hours of the summer. Gorgeous scenery. Camping that reminds me of my family trips as a kid. And a 2.5 year old whose moods changed as though my channel-surfing gramps had a remote control on her.
Kai: "My eyes are tired!!"
Coral/Mommy "I'm sorry your eyes are tired. What can you do about that?"
Kai: Close them.
Coral/Mommy: Okay.
Wildflowers! I guess there's a little water left in California.
Kai was not impressed with Aunt Heather at this time. But at least there are little cheesy crackery snacks.
Again - excited to be in the tent, but not about Aunt Heather taking pictures.
A little tent in the woods. My home for the night.
We headed down to the lake with some rafts - and we were mostly alone. . .
Except for the critters.
Coral wanted to take Kai to the rock that she (Coral) jumped off as a kid. But the dang lake is so low that there's no jumping off into the water for two year olds who are 4th-grade sized. So. . . we improvised.Coral helps Kai get up to the rock.
And instructs her to jump AWAY.
And Kai jumps way out - into the raft.
Whoa! Flying Kai!
Wrapped up in a towel. Still smiling. Warming up in towel and warming up to Aunt Heather.
Mama and baby -- twinsies.
Look at my muscles!
Kai had to climb on every single rock as we walked back to camp. It took about 7x as long to walk from the lake to the camp (where the wine was), but it was so worth it.
We're planking and making memories.
Got some warm clothes for an evening walk.
The lake in the evening.
At which point Kai walks off on her own in search of. . . ladybugs?
Kai has official decided that I'm on the 'okay' list. And there's almost nothing cuter than hearing, in a small toddler voice, "Where's Au' Hedda going? Where's Au' Hedda going?"Kickass fire after foraging for wood.
Awww. So much love.
Coral demonstrates how to best grock on the s'mores.
And then passes it on to the next generation.
A bit of a success.
Coral toasts the *perfect* marshmallow - and can barely eat it for the boasting.
So here's a fun game that can last for HOURS - find a tiny stick on the ground and throw it into the fire. But that's not all!! Make sure that Aunt Heather gets up and throws JUST AS MANY twigs into the fire as you.
SO FUN!!
Coral wielding her butch-ax.
Never happier than this!
Woke up in the morning to a cold little girl whose eyes are again tired.
But with a spoon (that doubles as a fork) and some yogurt, as well as a fire and the sun coming up,
Every. Last. Lick.
Capturing each morsel of cute.
Perfection to the nth!
Awww. What a fun time with two lovely lovely ladies! Can't wait for more!
